From the guys responsible for Groovejet and Aspen comes Amalia. Named after Sigmund Freud’s mother and housed in a former 18th century bi-level carriage house next the Dream Hotel, Amalia is both a restaurant and a lounge bringing a downtown feel to the often drab Midtown. Enjoy chef Adam Ross’ American cuisine with a coastal Mediterranean touch in a space defined by its sleek, baroque interior, before the college kids take over the place, knocking down 20-buck cocktails. Note that the preppie gay Rockit Friday party has now moved to Chelsea club Quo.
