This strange, even inconvenient part of Brooklyn was never considered a culinary destination- that is until Hecho en Dumbo took over a former art supply store. Chef Danny Mena, who grew up in Mexico City and has a degree from the French Culinary Institute, creates a list of dishes using fresh produce from local farmer markets and Mexican essentials from the Essex Street Market on the Lower East Side. Have a seat at the long communal tables and enjoy a cocktail made from top shelf tequilas, not that cheap stuff from Spring Break. This open, airy, dimly-lit restaurant is, if nothing else, sexy.
