Who said that the New York gay club scene was dead? And if the nearby BPM nightclub at The Out tempted all the gay club kids to crawl out from under their rocks, then Viva Saturdays at Stage 48 is making them run hysterically to the gym to firm up.
It’s held at the biggest dance venue in town and it comes from the big daddy trio of NYC boy-on-boy clubbing, Ric Sena of Alegria, and John Blair and Beto Sutter, the veterans behind the legendary nights at Roxy and Limelight. There’s a monster sound system, a state-of-the-art light system to match, and a sea of glistening pecs to reflect the lasers.
Massive, with a multi-level dance floor, a fabulous open-air rooftop (glass-encased during the colder months) and the usual early-hour open bar, it attracts the kind of queues hardly seen since Roxy closed down. It seems that big venue Saturday night clubbing really is back.
