Update March 2011: Touch is shut down due to a licensing problem, so Utopia is currently suspended. A club night for non-clubbers is how you might best describe this Friday nighter. With go-go boys, serious dance tunes and early bird open bar, all the standard NYC gay club recipe ingredients are certainly there, but it’s no gym bunny convention and some of dance moves may not be totally kosher.
The night is brought to you by Kevin Wiltz and Michael Cohen, the duo behind popular school night parties like The Cove at 49 Grove and Summer Camp at Highbar that are known for drawing in the cute crowd.
The gathering here is similar, if perhaps slightly younger, so the feel is less Roxy and more Fashion Institute student night. But hey, even the FIT has mature students, and having a sense of style and knowing how to have fun really goes a long way. Besides, Industry Bar is only one block away if you get desperate for more mature company.
