New York’s Saturday nightlife is in crisis according to Ricky Mercado, who has bought the defunct Elevate in hopes of injecting a little gay fun back into the scene like a club-land counsellor. His new night (appropriately named Crisis) sits alongside Uncut Fridays and Trashed Tuesdays at the new venue (tentatively renamed 390 Eighth Avenue) and brings together nightlife heavyweights Daniel Nardicio, Michael T, and Cynthia Powell, playing to an eclectic crowd upstairs in The Panic Room, and below in The Bombshelter, with enough live acts, go-go dancers and drag characters to keep you going back to the therapist’s sofa come morning. Crisis has never been so chic.
