Update March 2011: Liberty Hall has licensing problems, so Johnny is without a home for the time being. A basement party, full of cute boys, where both decor and outfits have that slightly dishevelled look that signals laidback and cool, yet leaves no doubt that careful deliberation has gone into every detail. Yup, it’s like Williamsburg without having to board the L train.
Drink prices, however, remain very Manhattan as the basement space in question is Liberty Hall at Ace Hotel and it’s Jessica Resler and Vance Garrett who are responsible for turning Midtown’s favourite party lodging gay on Thursdays.
The two had Fire Island’s Pavilion hopping last summer and they’re bringing in crowd pleasers like Josh Sparber and DJ Tombstone to help this party along. Good fun, and as laid back as the vintage hi-tops and designer denims will permit, but let’s play pretend. For Johnny’s sake.
