Fuelled by the country’s isolation from mainland tastes, Iceland’s capital of Reykjavik is a hotbed of creativity. Lots of unique independent stores line the cobbled streets, including Kisan, a concept store owned by Thorunn Anspach and her French hubby Olivier Brémond, who’ve since expanded to bring their quirky vision to New York.
The clothing’s emphasis is still skewed towards womenswear, with men currently relegated to the odd accessory and sweater, but instead go for the decorating tidbits, books and toys. As well as giving home-grown talent a new international platform to sell from, they’ve picked up other brands from around the world along the way.
Pick up a set of exquisite gold-glazed Tse & Tse porcelain coffee cups and some sweet wooden toys and Steiff stuff to gift or incite some nostalgia at home, or stock up on stationary that’ll cheer up any correspondence. Why not start by writing to Iceland, with love.
