Nolita’s been gagging for a good sleep. No this isn’t some kind of South American smut story featuring a tired out tranny – compared to neighbouring SoHo, the cutesy area North of Little Italy has always needed a boutique hotel, and now it’s got one, courtesy of The Nolitan.
Sure, the name has about as much imagination as our aforementioned street-walker, but the 55-room sleeper is surprisingly cool with eight different warehouse-style room types.
The spaces are masculine without being overly chest-thumping, concrete ceilings contrasted against hardwood oak floors and Venetian-plaster feature walls. Open-plan rainforest showers keep things playful while separate WCs come in handy for the pee-shy and couples in-the-making alike.
Want to explore the surrounding shopping spots, head into Chinatown or stroll SoHo? Do it on your own skateboard. If that’s too old school, check out the in-room entertainment techno candy: free Wi-Fi, borrowable laptops, iPod docking stations and gaming consoles from reception.
And if you’d rather pass on the Wii workout, then take advantage of the complimentary access to the nearby Equinox fitness centre. Shower there, though, and you might get more entertainment than you bargained for.
