No, you’re right. It’s not in SoHo. The name refers to the London members-only club, which expanded to the Meatpacking District in 2003. Since then, it has served as the epitome of urban sophistication, even making an appearance as the setting of a “Sex & The City” episode. This is first and foremost a members club, and the waiting list is a mile long (even Samantha Jones had trouble getting in, remember?) As a lodger there’s no wait, but you’ll be sharing facilities with the members, mostly media types and actors. The 24 rooms, mixing contemporary and retro furniture, are chic with chandeliers, wood beams, rich leather and the latest technology toys. The third floor Cowshed Spa provides the usual spa treatments, while the sixth floor is the main space with a game room, private dining room, restaurant and bar. The rooftop sports an almost always crowded, heated pool with dining and lounge spaces.

The rooms are understated and chic, with an exciting mix of contemporary and retro furniture, and the views of Manhattan, especially from the rooftop pool, are hard to beat.

18.5 of 20. So it’s a hotel, yes, but it’s a private club first. The waiting list for memberships, we’re assured, is miles long, but this being America, it is possible to buy your way in; hotel guests are members for the duration of their stay, with access to spaces that most locals can only daydream about.
