In the 1890s, Raines Law banned the sale of alcohol on Sundays – except in hotels. Bars took advantage of that loophole and started adding bedrooms. Today, in true 19th Century spirit, the chief mixologist from Milk & Honey offers cocktails in a retro-designed windowless residential home with a clandestine garden. Sounds strange? Gets better: Houseguests must ring a buzzer and be let in by a host. Get there early for a table surrounded by couches. After the first round, use the pull chain to let your waitress know you’ll have another. Next door, you’ll find Splash Bar, where you can pull something else when the chain gets tired.
