When a night navigating the dodgier side of pseudo-Shanghai seems less than appealing, head to the much more appetising insides of the Mondrian SoHo instead.

Mister H is made for misdemeanours with its red lighting, damask walls, poppy-painted bar and jade floors chequered with gold. A favourite amongst fashion folk for post-show parties, you’ll find the beautiful and artfully damned, getting down with a celebrity clientele.

Size queens will appreciate that the bar is named after a fictional ‘Mr Hung’ and facilitates the search for the real deal. Cosy into one of the red beds and pick up your personal phone which randomly connects to others in the room and invite a stranger to share a ‘Horny Goat Weed Chaser’ or ‘Fling Dagger’ cocktail.

Flash your keycard and enter through the hotel lobby if you’re a paying guest – otherwise you might want to put a call in to ‘Disco’, the ex-Bungalow 8 doorman, to make sure you’re good to get in or you may well end up wandering the backstreets of Chinatown again.
