The contemporary art division of MoMA is actually in an old public school (hence the ‘PS’ in the name) with various installations in the classrooms. The emphasis here is, and always has been, on promoting the most experimental work and unheard of genres by established artists and young talent alike, with over 50 exhibitions being presented each year. The ‘Warm Up’ music series, held outside in the former school courtyard in the Summer months, makes for a cool escape from the city. Acting as urban beach parties, complete with some of the world’s best DJs and surrounded by a different architectural installation every year, these sessions provide a unique multi-sensory experience for both music fans and art lovers alike.
