Say the word craft, and childhood memories of gluey fingers or images of crafty women who dig women spring to mind, rather than the beautiful objects housed in here. Whether it was those unsavoury associations, or simply a love of its kooky new acronym (MAD) which motivated the change of name from The American Craft Museum to The Museum of Arts and Design, shall remain unknown, but there are still plenty of reasons to pay a visit. There are the exhibitions for starters, of course, but fans of architecture will find plenty of reason to study what Brad Cloepfil has done to Edward Stone’s Lollipop building (the pillars can still be seen from the inside), whilst the famished can have a bite in the ninth-floor restaurant, which may just have some of the best views of Central Park.
