Bankrupt and in a shambles, automaker Chrysler has little to be proud of – except perhaps laying name to this masterpiece of Art Deco architecture. An iconic part of the New York City skyline, and depicted countless times in films, art, advertising and literature, it now glitters just like it must have in the 1930s, thanks to a 1996 restoration. The gargoyles depict Chrysler car ornaments and the distinguishing spire is modeled on a radiator grille. There are no organized tours or exhibits, but the gleaming chrome lobby is open to tourists daily.
