It’s no surprise that the rooftop pool forms the epicentre of daytime action during Pride week: Your fictional ‘host’ Oscar is the Room Mate hotels’ sexually ambiguous party animal and an actor (out of work, we presume) who gets off on his urban surroundings and likes nothing more than a bit of glamour, cocktail in hand. No surprise then that he’s roped in Spanish light ambience designer Tomas Alia to design the 74 rooms. Spread across seven colour coded floors, you’ll get pimped out, beaded orange curtains in some, black & white floral graphics in others, and naked decals for the lucky few. Unlike his siblings, Oscar does have a restaurant, though with its proximity to the Gran Via’s eateries and smack bang in the heart of the Chueca nightlife, you won’t be short of options.

The latest of its kind, the Room Mate Óscar opens its doors with a modern design and interiors styled by the likes of Tomás Alía to especially appeal to lovers of art and good food. Recently inaugurated, this centrally located building is originally from the seventies but both its façade and interiors have been renovated in their entirety. It enjoys convenient proximity to the most renowned museums in Madrid, along with the most exquisite restaurants of this city in constant motion. You will not be left indifferent.
