Don’t change a winning formula, they say, and the team behind Barcelona’s insanely popular Federal Café have indeed kept changes to a minimum as they brought it to the capital’s trendy Conde Duque district. This outpost may sport a slighly cooler, Nordic look but otherwise it’s really the same bright and airy feel, the same laid-back, welcoming vibe.
The menu offers no surprises either: Tasty, eco-friendly all-day breakfast and brunch dishes, from müesli to baked eggs and the signature ‘morning burger’, as well as an inviting spread of baked goods, a decent selection of juices, and a range of alcoholic beverages for the hair of the dog (the ‘elixir’ is particularly recommendable, hangover or not).
There’s no roof garden at Federal Café Madrid, but they’ve replicated those brilliant indoor-outdoor window sill seats and there’s also seating on the plaza. Start your day here before exploring the area’s shops and cultural offerings – it’s one block from Sportivo and Mini, and just a short walk to Museo ABC and the Conde Duque cultural center.
