Fans of the ubiquitous vegetable (ooh, but is it a fruit? The debate rages on…) will be disappointed to hear that tómate, here, means "to take". And the adjacent philosophy is that this sceney little restaurant, run by the Catalan Grupo Tragaluz gastro-design masterminds behind Barcelona’s Hotel Omm amongst others, will always have something on offer for you to take.
Its location in the business-gallery-embassy district of Castellana means that it’s usually packed with everyone from politicos and artsy-fartsies to the fashion lot and ladies-who-lunch, and its menu is accordingly versatile. The wood-oven pizzas have become an instant favourite, whilst the hamburgers are a surefire hit at any time of day; those with higher aspirations might dip into the ‘Tómate of the Week’ whilst anyone watching their figure would do well to stick to the lighter salad option.
You don’t need a reservation to guarantee a place as there’s some standing room at the bar – which gets even busier after midnight when the DJ cranks up the volume – but if you fancy taking a seat at one of the coveted tables, we recommend booking well ahead.
