A man meets a woman, they fall in love, open a chain of restaurants, and grow old and well-fed together… hardly a modern fairytale, but a true story nonetheless. The eponymous Astrid and Gastón have several locations dotted around South America and Spain, with their flagship space in Peru, which is where the main inspiration for the menu has come from.
Tiradiro (Peruvian sashimi or carpaccio), causa (potato pie stuffed to the brim with a variety of fillings) and chupes (a traditional Peruvian soup) all make the cut, and unlike most ‘chains’, you’ll find the atmosphere homely and the interiors capable of rivalling any independent restaurant in town.
