Sometimes stuff is ubiquitous because it works. So yes, whilst there might be more imaginative ways to experience Madrid, one of the best ways is still by that stalwart of touristic endeavours, the open-top bus. The tours by Bus Turístico Madrid (having taken over the operations of the now bankrupt Madrid Vision) take in all the major sights and will get you some bearings, whizzing along Gran Via, Calle Mayor and Sol.
