Hotel Único Madrid may be relatively new on the scene, but inside it’s a lesson in old school glamour. Located in the noble district of Salamanca, the basement was formerly used as a stable and coach house, though you won’t find any stray hay bales in the revamped property.
The 44 rooms sport all modern cons including free Wi-Fi, perhaps angling slightly towards the feminine with their curlicue stencilled dividers and rose pink cushions. We prefer to say there's a soft ambience, echoed in the beautiful courtyard garden (ask for a room facing this for a more quiet stay).
The gym is smallish (fine for cardio, go elsewhere for weights), but the hotel's main attraction is also calorie-adding: Catalan chef Ramon Freixa's two Michelin-star signature restaurant. Book well in advance if you're planning to eat anything but breakfast here.
