If you ever feel like you haven’t seen quite enough of the world, spend a night in one of the rooms in this 18th century building, individually designed and outfitted by interior designer and art historian Marta Medina. There’s only seven to choose from, but each comes with its own spirit – whether that be via a trip to Damascus, a sojourn to Greece, or the most sought-after space – old India. If you’re as fascinated by things as Marta clearly is, you’ll get a great deal of enjoyment out of being surrounded by busts, frescoes, wall hangings, carpets and antiquities. Ironic then, that the emphasis here isn’t really on staying IN the actual hotel – with no restaurant or public spaces to speak of (though you’ll be treated to a little breakfast and an evening tipple), you’ll be forced onto the streets to find food. Lucky then that the property overlooks the opera house and finds itself smack in the city centre – and if you find Spain isn’t all it’s cracked up to be out there, you can comfort yourself by falling asleep in another state entirely.
