Though not a gay bar per se, most of the dolled up ladies and their male companions will break up their chit-chat for long enough to reach an agreement of “mine, if he’s not batting for your team”, when an attractive newcomer steps in here.
Run by PR man Javier Muñiz and DJ Jaimote Island and located in the chic Las Salesas district on the cusp of Chueca, La Turba is a cocktail bar, restaurant and DJ bar all in one, but most of all it’s a place to mingle with the local media and fashion crowd. A favourite of semi-celebrities, scene queens, and PR bitches of all genders for after-work drinks, if what they do classifies as work, it’s usually good for a little see-and-be-seen action.
When it comes to ordering, stick to the liquid menu. The food – of the tapas variety – is yummy alright, but we all know how unsightly eating can be, and the cocktails really are great. The mojitos are delicious but, again, save yourself from the mint leaf between the teeth and stick to the caipiroskas and cucumber elderflower Martini.
