After a hard day’s work, people watching or even just wallowing, nothing beats a G&T for a little relaxation. And one of the best places to get hold of a cold, perfectly prepared one is La Chula de Valverde, right on the edge of Chueca, attracting a crowd of local twenty, thirty and early fortysomethings.
Brick walls, plenty of blackboards, exposed ventilation shafts along the ceiling and old wooden beams make it a cosy choice in which to start the evening, with deli style glass counters providing nibbles for post-work pickings.
But the real action is at the bar, where gin and tonics take on a new incarnation as the base material for innovative twists, made with everything from grapes and raspberries to exotic spices and even sausage, prepared spun down a spoon to make the bubbles burst in your mouth on the first sip and served in deep wine glasses.
