With the exception of the parties held at Sala Macumba, then the Chamartín district, in the northern part of town, isn’t the most obvious gay nightlife destination in Madrid – but then nothing at Club Musée is that obvious.
Part of a small cluster of bars on Alberto Alcocer that usually draws a more progressive crowd, Club Musée fills up on weekends with fairly attractive, late twenty, early thirtysomethings – predominantly straight but with a generous sprinkling of gay boys, too (Grindr challenge!) – up for a night of fun.
Conceived as part art gallery, part club, and decked out by Parolio of the locally based Parolio & Euphoria Lab, it’s plastic fantastic meeting TRON, with huge installations of fierce fashion photography and illustrations set against a backdrop of glossy black glass, mirrors and LED lighting.
Arrive before 2am to beat the queues and appreciate the interiors, then get partying to a soundtrack of house and electronica spun by an impressive array of guest DJs. Far from being a gay club, those bored of the Chueca scene may nonetheless appreciate an evening at this wondrous hangout.
