Oh Polari, the once secret parlance used among homosexuals. It’s gifted the English language such great words as bimbo, butch and fantabulosa, and given us boys succinct terms for our dirty cottaging activities and innocent innuendos like basket.
It’s only suitable that Polari has also given name to this literary salon, set up and presented by Time Out’s flamboyant (and hot!) LGBT editor Paul Burston. The monthly night showcases queer literary talent, both established and up-and-coming, and while that may sound fairly kosher, it’s far from being any ordinary book club or reading group.
Featuring talks, poetry and performances in the great setting of the Royal Festival Hall, with bar and a DJ to set the mood, every event is different but guaranteed to entertain, even if you aren’t the most avid of readers. Put on a zhooshy drag and join your fellow omi-palones for some fun with words. Advance booking recommended.
