Subtlety is not on the menu in the grand rooms of The Wolseley, bedecked as it is with its high, barrel vaulted ceilings, chinoiserie wall frescos and iron chandeliers dripping with the equivalent of next year’s rent. Whilst most will admit they don’t exactly go for the food alone (though the Wienerschnitzel is a well-loved house classic), there’s no dearth of options as in the ‘Grand Café’ tradition, you’ll get several menus here. With silver cutlery expertly laid out by a neat staff who don’t miss a beat, you’ll be elbows deep in a copy of the FT surrounded by the buzz of deals being done, mergers being made and whispers overheard before you know it.
