You’d be hard-pressed to bear in mind the colour and vibrancy of say, Tokyo or a group of Harajuku girls, when stepping into Alan Yau’s fine-dining Japanese restaurant in the heart of super-posh St James. Leaving behind the bustle of some of his other ventures (Wagamama, Cha Cha Moon), you’ll need to ascend an escalator to get to the dining room, shuttered in by bamboo blinds and encircled by low-slung tables with traditional floor cushions for chairs. Immaculately black-clad waiting staff serve superb tempura, the finest sake and some of the freshest sashimi in the city.
