Opened in 1916 by a family of Oyster farmers, Bentley’s has become something of an institution on the London gastro-scene, providing seafood aficionados with their daily dose of omega-3 for over 90 years. The restaurant remains in its original location, a beautiful old Victorian building strongly influenced by the arts and crafts movement inside, and is now in the hands of head-chef Richard Corrigan. Come here for earthy, uncluttered gamey dishes from the more sedate Grill upstairs, or seafood galore from the Oyster Bar downstairs, which houses a beautiful marble bar and leather banquettes. Expect everything from traditional cod and chips to modern fusion medleys.

What others say

Urban Junkies

Despite its reputation for being a distinctly grown-up fish joint, you don’t necessarily have to go the whole hake (geddit) at Bentley’s. A seafood cocktail and a glass of something cold and white at the bar will more than do the job if you’re in a rush or just want to play it down.
