Like Wagamama – the noodles-on-the-cheap empire that Yau founded – prices are low at Princi (or rather, the menu is made up of affordable bits, because a fiver for a Danish pastry isn’t exactly cheap).
With trickling water walls at the back giving the space a decidedly continental, piazza-style air, Princi employs a formula of long communal tables which make for plenty of knee-bumping opportunities with the hottie seated next to you. And the handsome spot is full of them, despite the carb-laden goods they peddle – after all, this is a collaboration with Rocco Princi (yes, a renowned Milanese artisan baker despite the pornstar name).
If sitting socially isn’t your thing, grab a paper and pull up a bar stool by the floor-to-ceiling windows facing Wardour Street and its mincing media moguls. Come here for a light meal – the pizza slices and foccacias are great – or stop by for a little dessert after dinner at Busaba Eathai, Yau’s incense-laden Thai restaurant just across the street.
