East London's newest venue is a familiar beast, picking up the pieces left behind by the now bankrupt Soho-transplant Ghetto. Ghetto had attempted to provide Eastenders with a gay venue worthy of its new twinkie hipster Old Street location, but failed to excite its traditional punters who preferred its buzzing Soho venue and found the new one a bit dead behind the eyes. However, the future looks brighter for East Bloc: Wayne Shires (co-founder of The Cock) has taken over the reins and his Beartronic night - an East Village NYC meets East London (with a bit of Berlin cruise club thrown in) mashup of retro electro pop and disco – continues to pick up momentum, and the popular Wig Out party, which prides itself on everything pop from Blondie to Britney, still keeps Saturdays fun and carefree.
