Virginia Woolf et al might have made up the original Bloomsbury Set, but the mantel has been well and truly passed on – to a refined group of gays residing in a basement space in the heart of Bloomsbury.
Candlelit stairs lead the way to an atmospheric area with cushion-strewn caverns cut into the back for secret liaisons, chilled-out music, classic cocktails (the mojitos are stellar – or at least served with a smile) and friendly staff. You can even grab one of the intimate cubbies for movie nights with mates as they’re all equipped with TVs and DVD players.
Sure, philosophical nights in are hardly going to change the face of gay nights out, but its own brand of pseudo-retro intimacy makes for a nice change and a welcome neighbourhood drop-in.
