A series of seemingly incongruous elements make up this Camden Town favourite; it started life as the purported residence of a black witch (hence the name), before being reclaimed by the gay community and turned into north London’s only real drag and cabaret venue, with a bit of a pub thrown in for good measure. You’ll get seriously reasonable food and pints in the Shufflewick Bar upstairs, decked out with button tufted banquettes, slot machines and properly nasty carpeting, whilst downstairs is dedicated to the cabaret club bar’s roster of performing artists and party nights. There’s even a lovely roof terrace covered in hanging baskets, lavender borders and clematis covered pergola.
