Dalston, in London’s East End, has slowly been making a name for itself with an influx of hot little hotels, edgy designers and the Dalston Superstore club, possibly the first ever venue hipsters would travel outside of a tube zone for. So the arrival of this concept store has only heightened the hype around the area.
Thought up by John Skelton, an alumnus from limited-edition masters oki-ni, and Bad Passion’s Dan Mitchell, LN-CC (Late Night Chameleon Cafe) looks like a set designer’s dreamscape. Descend down the stairs and through a skeletal corridor into seven concept rooms designed by Gary Card, ranging from ‘Earth’ and ‘Light’ to ‘Warmth’, as well as a book shop curated by art-book dealer Conor Dolan.
As both founders come from a menswear background, there’s more for guys than girls down here, a gratifying mixture of Japanese streetwear, London it-kids and established names – think Rick Owens, Ann Demeulemeester, Christopher Raeburn – as well as a bent for ambiguous items that cross gender boundaries altogether. And whilst the appointment-only entrance policy feels exclusive, you’ll find plenty of friends downstairs – if only thanks to the friendship bracelets dangling off every hanger.
