PALMERS LODGE SWISS COTTAGE

Hostels have a fairly grotty reputation, and for most places, deservedly so. For those of us not embarking on some kind of gap year extravaganza with backpack in tow, dorms and shared bathrooms are just not an option. However, we have to admire Palmer Lodge and its gutsy attempt at revising the humble hostel’s reputation. A beautiful Victorian building, located in an affluent neighbourhood, close to Camden, Hampstead Heath and Primrose Hill. Complete with high ceilings, tall windows, and brand new furnishings as well as key-card entry to rooms and secure lockers under beds make this the one exception we’re willing to concede. Plus, there are double beds in dorms for couples (equipped with privacy curtains, though presumably no sound-control), and a really homey restaurant and kitchen serving free breakfasts and cheap dinners. Now, will the LV luggage fit in our locker…
