What started life as a warehouse in the 19th century is now one of East London’s most popular hotels. From the giant pink chandelier in the lobby to the quirks of design in the rooms, you’ll be enchanted by hand-painted wall murals, colourfully upholstered furniture, and vending machines dispensing everything from cameras to champagne. Comfort hasn’t by any means been sacrificed, with lovely comforters embroidered with floating Zs and hand knitted hot water bottle cosies on the beds, rain dance showers in the bathrooms and stacks of love-worn Penguin classics on the bedside tables.

Mr & Mrs Smith
The Zetter is a hotel that’s all about cutting-edge design, with the clever and ironic contrasts and clashes of modern styles that you’d expect from an establishment embodying London’s eastside renaissance. The flamboyant pink chandelier that greets you in the lobby is a statement of intent, and the bold thinking continues throughout.

18.0 of 20. Supermarket heir Mark Sainsbury has gutted one of Clerkenwell’s grimiest Victorian warehouses to make room for this hotel, officially known as the Zetter Restaurant & Rooms—and not inaccurately, we might add, as the entire ground floor is devoted to the restaurant, in order to draw as many local diners as possible. In this it is a success; the atmosphere is less that of a hotel dining room and more that of, well, exactly what it is—an excellent and smartly designed Italian restaurant populated by impossibly cool locals.
