Yes, jazz is traditionally about gravelly voiced, sunglass-wearing, spastically tooting blokes in smoky dens – but there’s a new generation of musicians afoot – and they’ve been hanging out at Vortex. Featuring a grungier, more eclectic mix of experimental sounds, (hardly surprising – this is Dalston) with some contemporary jazz and a dash of folksy, world music on the side, as well as improv nights, jazzbo (with punk poetry), and regular international guests, it’s great for a chilled night out.
