DESIGN MUSEUM

You could be forgiven for making it no further into the actual museum than the ground floor gift shop – as a space which prides itself on presenting some of the most interesting and cutting edge art and design, you’d expect to walk away with something. However, try and do a round tour of the exhibitions before hitting the shelves, because apart from its permanent displays of over 1000 pieces of contemporary and 20th century design, the emphasis here is on the fabulous temporary exhibits which are always a treat for the visually inclined, including extensive displays of work by the likes of photographer Tim Walker and fashion designer Hussein Chalayan. Design Overtime is the museum’s events equivalent, offering late night happenings from more sedate talks to full-blown festivals.
