Although they state that staff have been ‘selected for their cheerful spirits and contagious laughter, not their intense studies of all the wine and cheeses of the world’, there’s nothing mad about Madklubben – ‘mad’ is the Danish word for food, and good, affordable food is what it’s all about here.
That also means that service can be hurried – the place is rarely less than packed – and occasionally verging on the unattentive, but that’s the trade-off for getting fine cooking at exceptionally low prices (for the city) and the buzzy atmosphere of the low-ceilinged basement dining room.
Depending on the size of your wallet and appetite, choose between one (DKK 100), two (DKK 150), three (DKK 200) or four (DKK 250) courses from the menu and top up with additional sides or gourmet options (DKK 25-100 extra). For hardcore carnivores, consider nearby sister site Madklubben Steak.
