Copenhagen’s oldest gay bar is showing her age but rather than overhaul her image, she’s just going to keep covering the cracks with gaudy strings of tinsel and enormously kitsch-tastic wealth of accessories (Christmas, Easter and any other holiday warranting decorations is a big deal here).
Step through the doors here and be transported back to a time when bartenders knew your name (though you’ll have to work to remember all of theirs as well as their drag alter-egos), and people lent you their ears as you lay slumped across the bar (check out Irma – the bar’s agony aunt).
Sure it’s all a little crazy geriatric and senior citizen-heavy (many have been regulars for a quarter century), but you won’t find a more welcoming group of people and they’ll even let you bring your own food in from the legendry sandwich joint next door as long as you imbibe from the bar. How’s that for hospitality.
