DUNKEL

Dark and gloomy is the literal translation of Dunkel, but while it may be dark, it’s certainly not gloomy. If anything, at times the dimly lit space feels more like Berlin or London’s Shoreditch than Copenhagen, with its top electro tunes and try-hard skinny-jeaned club kids.

Sexually ambigious, the place is mixed yet more gay than gay-friendly and decorated like a forest at dusk – not too dissimilar to the nearby cruising park, Ørstedsparken, at its peak hour. However, being hot, smokey and grimey, people don’t come to admire the interiors, but for the usually excellent line-ups and liberal opening hours to let go on the crowded, make-shift dance floor at the wee hours of the morning.
