Update April 2011: The kids behind Be Proud has decided to shut the place down. With room for 500 revellers, Be Proud is Copenhagen’s largest and slickest gay club but, located right across from Abercrombie & Fitch store, there’s no lack of a captive market in the direct catchment area.
A younger crowd attends Saturday’s Cosmo party – a popular open bar concept that few of the kids will be capable of fully remembering the following day – held in the industrial loft-style top floor, while the main space attracts a more mature, mainstream public of both gays and lesbians dancing to pop, electro and R ‘n B in the white walled and LED-lit room.
Things can occasionally be a little slow, particularly before 2am, but there’s karaoke to be had downstairs, and if you’re more of a spectator than an active participant, the chill out areas around the sides of the main area play more relaxing lounge music and offer a good view of the action through transparent walls.
