Historically the seediest part of Copenhagen, the allure of low rents has resulted in a skinnyjeaned invasion turning the neighbourhood into the local Hipsterville.

Pornshops are still lining Istedgade on the part closest to the Central Station but otherwise the area has been well scrubbed with cafes, galleries and boho bars popping up everywhere from Halmtorvet, the former prostistute epicentre, to the former brewery grounds of Carlsberg at Enghave.

Kødbyen

Copenhagen’s hottest new hangouts are to be found in the Danish version of NYC’s Meatpacking District, or as they like to call it – none too appealingly – “Kødbyen” (“Meat City”).

But this is no second-rate Euro Disney to the main Floridian event; apart from cool new bars and the odd art collective, the former slaughter halls and pack houses are also the new home to some of the best restaurants in town.
