It took a wife and two daughters for Wolfgang Joop to embrace his inner gay and come out, but he’s since become enough of a bitch to call Heidi Klum “too heavy”. The man behind the now defunct JOOP! label of the 80s and 90s has recently made a critically acclaimed comeback with his Wunderkind line, founded together with his long-term boyfriend and former PR manager Edwin Lemberg. Always considered part of Germany’s fashion triumvirate along with Jil Sander and Karl Lagerfeld, Wolfgang also makes illustrations on the side – some of his work can be found in Hamburg’s prestigious Art Museum – and often contributes to publications including Der Spiegel and Stern.
