The popular Prince Charles bar and club was cheekily named after its spot on Prinzenstrasse and Carl Bechstein, the former owner of the property. Parker Bowles, with the same owners and also located within the Aufbau Haus creative complex, is simply named after Camilla, the infamous marriage breaker and now wife to the big-eared royal.
This, however, is more lovable than the real-life ‘Rottweiler’, having brought in restaurateur Oliver Rother and chef Sebastian Pfister. Champions of the neue deutsche Küche, it’s modern German that’s closer to fusion than the heavy dishes of Biergarten cooking. So while you’ll see Wiener Schnitzel and Stroganoff, it’s as creative reinterpretations with plenty of Asian and South American influences.
During the day, a more informal – and cheaper – deli-style menu is offered for a hearty breakfast or light lunch, and then on Sundays there’s the Papi Crunch brunch. A chapter in itself, the kitchen is taken over by Guillermo Luengas and Lennart Döring who cook up a Mexican-inspired à la carte feast that’s fast becoming the event with which to end the weekend.
It’s also a popular place to start the night. The tightly packed dining room and its many shared tables aren’t great for romantic dates or a business meal but can be fun for engaging with the locals. And if the bar and roof garden (a summer time must) aren’t happening enough for you to stay on, then Camilla’s got Charlie waiting around the corner, hot and ready.
