About halfway between Hackescher Markt and Alexanderplatz, in a tranquil little courtyard behind the Tommy Hilfiger store, right where the trendy shopping streets of Alte Schönhauser and Münzstrasse run into each other, that’s where Father Carpenter Coffee hides.
The design is pretty, Instagrammy, with lots of wood and a few intricate carvings to remind you that the name is in honour of the craftsmen and not the dad of Karen and Richard. Besides coffee (very good, using the locally roasted Five Elephant beans), the Aussie-run joint offers a decent selection of breakfast staples and fresh sandwiches.
Open from breakfast until late afternoon six days a week – you’ll have to find another place for your Sunday brunch – it’s a pleasant little spot to start your day, no matter if you’re an early or late riser. This carpenter daddy won’t polish your morning wood but he’ll do his best to please.
