To the uninitiated, finding this restaurant can be so daunting – down a back alley, past the dumpsters, up the stairs – that the relief of getting there can offset the disappointment of discovering that it’s vegetarian, even for the fiercest carnivore.
The set menu, however, is surprisingly good, especially considering that no one really goes here for the food. No, here the meaty substance of your meal is the scene – the semi-industrial, white-washed space has become one of Berlin’s hottest spots for the artsy-media crowd – which, of course, seems to make up half of the Berliners, so make sure to book to secure a table. The restaurant is collocated in the same building as Cookies, the club de jour, which opens Tuesday and Thursdays only, so keep that in mind if you’re planning on burning off the cauliflower on the tiles afterwards.
