What started life as the ‘Gay Tea Dance’ has put its saucer down, pulled its top off and turned to house and techno and what is now known as the legendary weekly GMF parties.
After nearly seven years at the top floors of a skyscraper overlooking the iconic Alexanderplatz TV tower, it’s now back to its original venue at the Café Moskau a few blocks away on Karl-Marx-Allee. It’s not blessed with the views and the cloakroom situation is dire but it’s still a great party space and it helps not having to deal with elevators.
Young, athletic types pack out the venue’s basement (chart toppers) and ground floor (take-your-tops-off house) every Sunday where DJs like Paul van Dyke come to spin to an upbeat crowd who clearly don’t have to worry about work in the morning – which might say a little more about their age than we care to know.
