Close to the Weinmeister and Casa Camper hotels is this pleasant Mitte bar that draws a trendy, gay-friendly crowd with its delicious concoctions and occasional DJ nights. It’s named after the French owner Johann Courgibet’s hometown, though this stylish basement drinkery feels more like Paris than sleepy Lorraine valley village.

The spectacular bar console, made from reclaimed boat planks, dominates the small space – and appropriately so, as Bar Saint Jean is primarily about cocktails and long drinks. It can get uncomfortably packed but it’s great for an after-work or early evening tipple. Later on you can always move to the trannyfabulous watering hole Betty F*** around the corner.
