If not just any old gym will do, Holmes Place is always a good bet for mingling with a moneyed clientele (cardio networking anyone?) and a guaranteed machine when you want it. It first opened in London’s posh Chelsea in 1980 and now counts 75 locations around the world (and a name that sounds like a suitably sneery stately home).
This centre may not be as central as the other Berlin branch at Gendarmenmarkt, but it has the added bonus of a swimming pool with Aqua Fit classes, steam room, spinning studio and smoothie bar, as well as a crèche to keep the underaged blighters out of the water so you can do laps.
