With over a century of shopping knowledge behind its original iron gates, Europe’s largest department store purports to have everything you could possibly want or need within its nine floors of retail heaven at KaDeWe (pronounced Car De Veh). If you’ve been pounding the pavements all holiday and need a break, pop into the Nail & Foot Spa, whilst hair dilemmas can be solved at the Friseur Tröndle. Cigar fanciers will be in heaven in the Davidoff Pilot Shop, and anyone pining up their fuzzy friends will find something to bring home from Koko von Knebel’s pet sanctuary on the fifth floor.
Apart from the usual range of designer brand names, cosmetics and homewares, the lower ground floor is home to a Creative Market selling all kinds of DIY goodies, but what really strikes our fancy is the gourmet floor on sixth. It houses a Lenôtre double of Boulangerie and Patisserie, the Leysieffer Café, and - more importantly - four champagne and the infamous oyster bar where people have been known to spend an entire weekend.
